Cambridge English tests and their international recognition

The most known and respected tests that guarantee the language fluency of the user are issued by Cambridge English, an institution branched off Cambridge University in Great Britain. Among them there are:
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System) – where four categories of knowledge are tested: reading, writing, listening and speaking, with a final score ranging from 1 to 9 – testifying users fluency. It’s the most widely accepted international ranging system.
- Cambridge English Qualifications – ranging from YLE (A1) to CPE (C2), are used to determine the language user’s proficiency level and serve as a stairway system to reach higher rank. They usually consist of reading and writing, listening and speaking parts.
- OET (Occupational English Test) – was created specifically for the needs of the healthcare sector, offering its workers an efficient way of checking the knowledge of medical personnel with all the vocabulary necessary to work in said work environment. It consists of the same elements as the IELTS test.
IELTS especiallyis a test recognised by thousands of organisations spanning 140 different countries on all inhabited continents – often an important evidence of a user’s knowledge of language when immigrating, looking for work and proving qualifications.
All said tests provide some insight in person’s language level – which is measured with the usage of CEFR – The Common European Framework for Languages – with six different levels, which we can simplify as:
- A1 – breakthrough; able to communicate with the usage of simple vocabulary
- A2 – waystage; can understand and create basic sentences

- B2 – vantage; can understand complex texts and communicate effectively
